Teacher:
Amira McCavitt is a passionate voice teacher, working with students of all ages, from young children to adults. Amira is comfortable teaching classical, musical theater, and pop styles of singing, and encourages her students to explore a wide range of repertoire. She aims to create an encouraging and supportive environment, where the student can learn to love and appreciate music and feel confident in their singing. Amira believes that building a healthy foundation of vocal technique allows the student to pursue any style of singing they please and works with her students to develop and solidify this foundation. Her students regularly participate in competitions and festivals, achieving high marks and awards. She teaches at World of Music and Arts in Richmond British Columbia and is currently taking new students into her studio.
Performer:
Amira McCavitt is a Canadian soprano, known for her powerful voice and stage presence. Amira is an ardent performer of both Opera and musical theater, with numerous principal roles to her name. Her life as a musician and performer began in childhood, with her first solo concert at age nine. Amira completed her Master’s Degree in Opera Performance at The University of British Columbia in 2007, under the tutelage of distinguished Tenor J. Patrick Raftery. During her time at University, Amira had the privilege to participate in masterclasses with world-renowned artists and teachers, such as Sondra Radvanovsky, Adrianne Pieczonka, Ben Heppner, Martin Katz, Wendy Nielsen, and Former Canadian Opera Company General Director Alexander Neef.
Amira has performed on stages throughout Canada and Europe, both in operatic productions and as a concert soloist with orchestra. She has studied and performed in both Germany and the Czech Republic. McCavitt has worked with several notable conductors throughout her career, including Alain Trudel, David Agler, Norbert Baxa, Leslie Dala, and Johnathan Darlington, and has had the pleasure of performing with Orchestra London, The VSO, and The Vancouver Opera Chorus.
